The Plant Scanner Privacy Policy

Who we are

Machine Tool Recyclers LLC (“we”) provides The Plant Scanner, an iOS app. On the iPhone home screen the name is Plant Scanner. Contact us at vanessa@machinetoolrecyclers.help.

No account

The app has no account. You do not sign in, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number inside the app.

What the app does with a photograph

When you take or choose a photograph, the app makes a visual description of it on your iPhone and compares that description with reference plants stored in the app. The photograph is not uploaded. We do not receive the picture, and we do not send it to a recognition service.

What stays on your iPhone

• Plants you choose to keep, including the photograph, the name, the care notes, and any note you type
• The choice that you have read the introduction

That information is not sold and is not used for advertising. You can remove one saved plant, or delete everything kept in the app, in Settings. Deleting the app removes what it stored, apart from anything in an iPhone backup managed by Apple.

Reference photographs

The app includes reference photographs of plants so it can make a comparison. Those photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and are stored in the app. The app shows the author and licence in Settings. Your own photographs are not added to that list.

Camera and photo library

The camera is used only when you take a photograph of a plant. Choosing an existing photograph uses the iOS photo picker. The app does not need ongoing access to your photo library.

What we do not do

• We do not create accounts.
• We do not sell subscriptions or other in-app purchases.
• We do not upload photographs.
• We do not collect location.
• We do not show ads.
• We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
• We do not sell personal information.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

A name can be wrong

A match is a resemblance to a reference plant, not a botanist’s determination. Do not eat a plant, and do not decide that a pet or child is safe, because a name appeared in the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and publish the new text on this page.
