The Plant Scanner Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of The Plant Scanner iOS app and this website. On the iPhone home screen the app is named Plant Scanner. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms and to Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. If these terms and Apple’s standard terms conflict on a point Apple requires, Apple’s standard terms control for distribution through the App Store.

The service

The app compares a photograph with reference plants stored on the iPhone and shows a possible name and general notes on light, water, and warmth. Results are estimates and may be wrong. There is no account and nothing to buy.

No medical, veterinary, or foraging advice

Do not eat or use any plant based only on this app. A safety note is general information, not medical, veterinary, or poison-control advice. If a person or pet is exposed to a plant, contact a doctor, veterinarian, or poison-control service.

Who may use it

The app is not directed to children under 13. You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live.

Your content

Photographs you take or choose, and notes you write, stay on your iPhone. You can delete them in the app. We do not receive them.

Reference photographs

Reference photographs in the app are used under their Wikimedia Commons licences. The app credits the author and licence. Those credits do not transfer ownership of the photographs to you.

Acceptable use

Do not misuse the app, attempt to break it, or use it in a way that breaks the law.

Intellectual property

We own the app, its design, and its text, except for reference photographs and other material used under a separate licence. These terms do not give you ownership of the app.

Disclaimer

The app is provided as is. We do not promise that a name is correct, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss caused by relying on a result.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date above will change when we do. If you keep using the app after the new terms are published, you accept the update.
